What kind of Drives and Chassis?
The HPE ML150 Tower Server has the ability to have three different drive configurations. Each chassis is setup for each configuration starting with the Non-Hot-Plug 4 Bay Chassis. This Non-Hot-Plug Ml150 Chassis can be upgraded to have 8 Non-Hot-Plug drives installed with the installation of a second Non-hot-plug drive cage (792353-001). This configuration is the only one to support the HP ML150 Gen9 9/10LFF Drive Enablement Kit (788567-B21).
NOTE: Non-Hot-Plug (NHPE) SATA is limited to the B140i controller and SATA drives.

The Second Drive Configuration is the 4 Bay LFF Hot-Plug ML150 Tower Server. This Tower Server come with supports up to 4 LFF drives but can have up to 8 LFF SAS/SATA Drives with the installation of the second HP ML150 Gen9 4LFF Hot Plug Drive Cage (725872-B21 - 792351-001). This Chassis is different from the Non-Hot-Plug because it uses (1) HP H240 12Gb 2-ports Int Smart Host Bus Adapter (726907-B21). This controller needs (1) HP ML150 Gen9 Mini SAS H240 Cable Kit (784606-B21) per 4 LFF Drive Cage. So if you install the optional Second Drive Cage to make the ML150 a total of 8 LFF Drives. Then you'll need to install (2) HP ML150 Gen9 Mini SAS H240 Cable Kit (784606-B21). One cable kit per Drive Cage.
NOTE: Must be selected for H240 controller.
NOTE: If H240 is the primary controller and if HPE Mfg FIO Enable HBA Mode Setting is selected, then RAID is not allowed.
NOTE: HPE ML150 Gen9 PCI BAFFLE Kit (779861-B21) is required when ordering the H240 controller card.

The Third Drive configuration is the 8 Bay SFF SAS/SATA Hot-Plug ML150 Tower Server. This server starts off with 8 SFF SAS/SATA SSD's with (1) HP H240 12Gb 2-ports Int Smart Host Bus Adapter (726907-B21) and (1) HP ML150 Gen9 Mini SAS H240 Cable Kit (784606-B21). If you want the 16 SFF SAS/SATA SSD configurations, then you''ll need to installed the HP ML150 Gen9 8SFF Hot Plug Drive Cage (725874-B21 - 792352-001). But once you do you'll need to change out the H240 for the P840 SAS Controller and also install (2) HP ML150 Gen9 Mini SAS P440/P840 Cable Kit (784608-B21). That's not all, if you want the Flash Back Write Cache (FBWC) to work, you'll need the HP 96W Smart Storage Battery with 145mm Cable for DL/ML/SL Servers (727258-B21) along with the HP ML150 Gen9 Smart Storage Battery Holder Kit (786710-B21).
NOTE: HPE ML150 Gen9 PCI BAFFLE Kit (779861-B21) is required when ordering a controller card.

1 Socket or 2 Socket configurations?
This 5U 2 Socket Tower Server by HPE can have 1 or 2 CPU's installed. The main difference between these two setup is the Cooling Architecture. In a 1 Socket system there are (2) Fans (792347-001) cooling the system. The second fan has spacer which are removed when installing a 2 Socket system which needs (3) Fans (792347-001) for cooling.
NOTE: Up to 2 processors supported. Mixing different processor models is not supported.
NOTE: Recommend to select 900W for 2P config.

Let's Talk Graphic Processing Units / Accelerators
With 7 PCI Slots 1 of which is a dedicated iLO slot. So really we only have 6 PCI- 3.0 usable slots on this ML150 Tower Server by HPE. Two PCIe 3.0 x16 (x16 speed) and Four PCIe 3.0 x 8 (x8 speed). The server supports up to two full-length, single-width GPUs. If one processor is installed, the GPU must be installed in PCIe slot 5. To install a GPU in PCIe slot 3, a second processor is required. Now to finish the installing of the full-length GPUs you'll need the HP ML150 Gen9 GPU Enablement Kit (779863-B21).
NOTE: HPE ML150 Gen9 PCI BAFFLE Kit (779861-B21) is required when ordering GPU card.

  • HP AMD FirePro W7100 8GB GDDR5 Accelerator Kit (J0H10A - 803279-001)
  • HP ML150 Gen9 GPU Enablement Kit (779863-B21)
Power Supply Unit (PSU) Specs!

This ML150 Server comes with a power 550W Non Redundant Power Supply Unit (PSU) (766879-001). You also have the option of a of two different Redundant Power Supply Models.

The first Redundant Power Supply Model is the HPE RPS backplane (784636-001) that holds ONLY the HPE 800 W/900 W Gold AC Power Input Module (754376-001).

  • 800W/900W hot-plug AC power supply
    • Up to 92% efficiency
    • 100-240VAC at 50-60Hz nominal input
  • Single PSU provides up to 550W (100-127VAC) and 900W (200-240VAC) each
  • Dual PSU configuration provides up to 550W (100-127VAC) and 800W (200-240VAC) each

The Second Redundant Power Supply Model is the HPE 900 W AC 240VDC RPS Power Backplane (830022-001). This can ONLY be used with the PSU HPE 900 W AC 240V DC Power Input Module (830219-001).

  • 900W AC/240VDC power hot-plug supply module
    • Up to 94% efficiency
    • 90-132VAC / 180-264VAC at 47-63Hz, or
    • 180-320VDC input power
  • (AC and DC both use the same C14 power input connector)
