The o-ring pick tool set is essential to include as you are building your pressure wash repair kit. You will lose o-rings. You will tear o-rings. You will replace o-rings. It is a certainty. Make it a lot easier on yourself and keep one of these pick tool set in your bag.  

Can you use a screwdriver, toothpick or anything else that's pointy to pull or replace an o-ring? You can try and in some cases you might be successful. The screwdriver is the most likely option to try and what we find is that the screwdriver scores the metal (unintentionally) and creates a void that water can now flow by. It's not the cleanest/safest method to use for YOUR EQUIPMENT.
